The Major Crimes Division Wiki

I hate to say this, Will, but this whole chief-selection process, it has not brought out the best in you, and if this is how you intend to run the department, I'm not even sure it's a job you should have.

— Brenda Leigh Johnson

Sgt. Gabriel inadvertently receives a frantic call from California Parole Commissioner Danielle Ross, saying that someone is in her house. After police arrive at Danielle's home and find her dead, Brenda and Major Crimes investigate her murder. The woman had been trying to reach Det. Frank Verico, who dealt in stalking cases and who had urged her to ask for police protection after she told him someone had been in her house while she was away, but she refused to get help. Though Brenda approaches the case in her typically methodical way, Pope snaps, obviously worried about how this might bear on his chances for the Chief position. When Brenda suggests that he take over if he doesn't like her progress, Pope shocks her by doing just that. Now marginalized, she and her unit quietly look into the case her way to find the culprit.

  • After Brenda and Det. Sgt. Gabriel meets with Richard Conway he tells them that he had begged them in court not to release him because he would only go and get high but yet still they did. He appears extremely remorseful which leads Brenda to believe that he truly did not have anything to do with Commissioner Ross' death. He says something that really motivates her to speak to the wife of the man he had murdered. When Brenda meets with Mrs. Weber she lies to her in order to trick her into confessing to the murder which she eventually does when Major Crimes division takes her back to Commissioner Ross' house. Brenda figures out that she broke into Ms. Ross' car to steal her remote which would open the car garage.

Brenda's Story[]

  • Brenda squares off with Chief Pope regarding his handling of the Ross murder. While she wishes to take her usual carefully planned route to arrive at an answer Chief Pope is not pleased with what he calls her slow progress. After Pope takes over the case Brenda has her squad, Commander Taylor and Frank Verico meet at her house so that they may have space and some peace to fully figure out the case,
