Hi, I'm Rusty Beck, and this is Identity, a VLOG dedicated to exploring what it means to be human.
Identity is Rusty Beck's video blog. It began as a project in a college journalism course. He was challenged by an assignment to write a meaningful story, and he decided to use the Alice Herrera (Mariana Wallace) case as his source material. Fueled by the experience, and how Mariana Wallace's situation relates to his own experiences, Rusty began investigating on his own. His investigation prompted him to develop his vlog. He later did stories on Alice's killer Slider and Buzz Watson's efforts to solve his father and uncle's murders in 1986.
This series follows Rusty's investigation into the real name of Alice Herrera. Her story began in Jane Doe #38, when Major Crimes finds the body of an unidentified teenaged girl in a swimming pool. Their investigation leads to a homeless encampment, and a tent with the first clues the identity of a girl they know only as Jane Doe #38. Rusty takes an interest in her case when Sharon gives him the task of organizing Jane Doe files. Struck by the similarities between his own life and the life of the girl the team came to know only as Alice Herrera, Rusty found himself determined to learn her true identity.
During What's In A Name?, Buzz Watson, the subject of Rusty's later story The Long Shadow acts as Rusty's cameraman. At the end of The Long Shadow, Gustavo Wallace is identified as Rusty's cameraman for that story.
